Overview

Course Description

The Infrared Thermography Category I course develops confident infrared thermographers. With BII Research's interactive simulations, 3D animations, and a wealth of case studies, participants understand the science of infrared thermography rather than memorising facts.

Participants learn how the camera functions — and thus how to collect good data the first time — and study the mechanical and electrical failure modes of plant equipment so they can accurately detect and diagnose a wide range of fault conditions. Certification via the certifying body (exam: 50 questions, 2 hours, 75% pass; 12 months experience for full certification).

Objectives

What you will achieve

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the science of infrared radiation and thermography
  • Explain how the infrared camera functions and how to configure it correctly
  • Collect high-quality thermal data the first time
  • Understand emissivity, reflection, and measurement error sources
  • Detect and diagnose electrical failure modes in plant equipment
  • Detect and diagnose mechanical failure modes in rotating equipment
  • Produce accurate thermographic reports and severity assessments
Training methodology

How the course is delivered

The course combines BII Research's interactive simulations and 3D animations with extensive case studies. Participants understand how the camera works and how equipment fails, so detection and diagnosis become confident rather than guesswork.

Access to the the online learning platform and comprehensive IRTCAT-I manual is provided, plus ongoing learning via the professional community.

Who should attend

Designed for

This training course is ideal for:

  • Infrared thermographers beginning certification
  • Condition monitoring technicians adding thermography
  • Electrical and mechanical maintenance personnel
