Overview

Course Description

This course covers the integration of pipelines, shipping, and storage into efficient CCUS transport networks. It explains the full CCS/CCUS value chain and the multimodal systems that move captured CO2 from industrial sites to storage or utilisation locations.

A key emphasis is placed on the unique thermodynamic and physical behaviour of CO2 and CO2-rich mixtures, including phase envelope behaviour, dense phase transport, and the impact of impurities. The course explores multimodal CO2 transport, CCS hub development, pipeline networks, shipping interfaces, port operations, and interim storage systems within a practical operational framework.

Objectives

What you will achieve

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the full CCS/CCUS value chain
  • Describe multimodal CO2 transport systems: pipelines, shipping, trucks, rail
  • Analyse phase behaviour and dense phase transport conditions
  • Assess the impact of impurities on transport integrity
  • Understand CCS hub development and pipeline network concepts
  • Manage flow assurance, off-spec handling, and system safety
  • Integrate shipping interfaces, port operations, and interim storage
Training methodology

How the course is delivered

The course integrates technical and operational dimensions of large-scale CO2 transport infrastructure through lectures, workshops, and practical framework exercises. It draws on the course leader's senior experience in hub-based transport networks and infrastructure reuse studies.

Real project examples ground the multimodal transport and hub development concepts.
