Course Description
Because in-situ recovery dissolves uranium within a live aquifer, the environmental case for ISR rests entirely on containment during operations and restoration of groundwater afterwards. Regulators, communities and financiers scrutinise this more closely than any other aspect of uranium mining — and getting it wrong ends projects.
This course develops the technical and regulatory understanding required to manage groundwater in ISR operations. Participants learn excursion detection and control, restoration methods and targets, monitoring programme design, waste and by-product management, and the closure and rehabilitation process — the areas where uranium operations face their greatest environmental and regulatory exposure.
