Course Description
Closure liability is incurred on the first day of mining and settled on the last. Regulators require closure plans and financial provision from the outset; investors price the liability; and communities judge the company on what remains after the trucks leave.
This course develops mine closure capability. Participants learn the closure concept and regulatory drivers, closure planning through the mine lifecycle, closure objectives and completion criteria, landform design and rehabilitation, acid rock drainage and long-term water quality, tailings and waste facility closure, infrastructure decommissioning, social transition and community outcomes, financial provisioning and its assurance, and post-closure monitoring and relinquishment.
