Overview

Course Description

Battery energy storage has become the enabling technology of the energy transition — firming renewables, providing grid services, and deferring network investment. As Kazakhstan, South Africa, India and Gulf states tender storage at gigawatt scale, BESS engineering competence is in acute shortage.

This course develops a comprehensive understanding of battery energy storage systems from cell to grid connection. Participants learn battery technologies and their characteristics, BESS architecture and balance of plant, sizing and design, safety and thermal runaway management, grid connection and control, and the operations and maintenance that determine BESS performance and life.

Objectives

What you will achieve

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the role of battery storage in modern power systems
  • Compare battery technologies and their characteristics
  • Describe BESS architecture and balance of plant
  • Understand battery management systems and controls
  • Size and design a BESS for a defined duty
  • Address BESS safety and thermal runaway
  • Understand grid connection and power conversion
  • Manage BESS operations, degradation and maintenance
Training methodology

How the course is delivered

The course combines BESS technology with practical sizing, safety and grid integration exercises. Participants work through design and operating scenarios using realistic storage applications.

The programme covers the full system — cells, BMS, power conversion, controls and grid interface — rather than batteries in isolation.

Who should attend

Designed for

This training course is ideal for:

  • Power and electrical engineers
  • Renewable energy project engineers
  • Utility and grid professionals
  • Project developers and asset managers
  • Anyone deploying or operating battery storage
