This CyberSec First Responder® (CFR) training course focuses on network defense and incident response strategies aligned with industry standards such as NIST 800-61r2, US-CERT's NCIRP, PPD-41 on Cyber Incident Coordination, and NIST 800.171r2. It is tailored for individuals tasked with monitoring and detecting security incidents in information systems and networks, and executing standardized responses. Participants will learn about tools, tactics, and procedures to manage cybersecurity risks, defend assets, identify threats, assess security posture, gather and analyze cybersecurity intelligence, and handle incident remediation and reporting. This course offers a comprehensive approach to cybersecurity defense for organizational stakeholders.

In this training course, you will identify, assess, respond to, and protect against security threats and operate a system and network security analysis platform. You will:

How the course is delivered
This training course uses a practical, scenario-driven approach reflecting the work of a cyber security first responder. Participants work through detection, analysis and response exercises using realistic incident scenarios, building the judgement required to act under pressure.
The programme combines instruction with hands-on analysis, case studies and group exercises, and covers the domains assessed by the CyberSec First Responder (CFR) certification examination.
Note: the CFR credential is awarded by the certifying body following its examination. Candidates register directly with the certifying body. This course provides preparation and does not itself confer certification.

This training course is designed primarily for cybersecurity practitioners preparing for or who currently perform job functions related to protecting information systems by ensuring their availability, integrity, authentication, confidentiality, and non-repudiation. It is ideal for those roles within federal contracting companies and private sector firms whose mission or strategic objectives require the execution of Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) or DoD Information Network (DoDIN) operation and incident handling. This training course focuses on the knowledge, ability, and skills necessary to provide for the defense of those information systems in a cybersecurity context, including protection, detection, analysis, investigation, and response processes.
In addition, the training course ensures that all members of an IT team—regardless of size, rank, or budget— understand their role in the cyber defense, incident response, and incident handling process.
