Overview

Course Description

CBAM does not accept corporate carbon footprints. It requires embedded emissions calculated at the level of the production installation, following the EU's own methodology, with data of sufficient quality to survive third-party verification — including on-site inspection in the first reporting year.

This is a technical discipline, and it is where most exporters fail. Boundaries must be drawn per installation and production process, precursors must be tracked through the value chain, activity data and emission factors must be evidenced, and the whole system must be documented as a monitoring methodology.

This course builds that capability. Participants learn the EU calculation methodology in detail, installation and system boundaries, direct and indirect emissions, precursor handling, data collection and quality, monitoring plan design, and preparation for verification — the practical work of turning a plant into a CBAM-reportable installation.

Objectives

What you will achieve

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply the EU methodology for embedded emissions calculation
  • Define installation and production process boundaries
  • Quantify direct emissions from production processes
  • Determine indirect emissions from electricity
  • Track and account for precursors through the value chain
  • Establish activity data, emission factors and data quality requirements
  • Design a monitoring methodology and monitoring plan
  • Prepare an installation for third-party verification
Training methodology

How the course is delivered

The course is a technical working programme built around calculation exercises using realistic installation data from steel, aluminium and fertiliser production. Participants work through boundary definition, precursor tracking and monitoring plan design.

The programme follows the EU methodology specifically — not general carbon footprinting — and is aimed at the engineers and specialists who must produce data that withstands verification.

Who should attend

Designed for

This training course is ideal for:

  • Process and production engineers by process area
  • Environmental and emissions specialists
  • Metering, instrumentation and data professionals
  • Reporting and compliance staff
  • Anyone responsible for CBAM data at an installation
