Overview

Course Description

Geophysical methods allow explorers to "see" beneath the surface — detecting the physical property contrasts that reveal buried ore bodies and geological structures. This course provides a practical understanding of the geophysical methods used in mineral exploration and how to apply and interpret them.

Participants learn the main geophysical techniques — magnetic, gravity, electromagnetic, induced polarisation, and radiometric — how each responds to different targets, survey design, and the integration and interpretation of geophysical data. The course is aimed at geologists and exploration professionals who need to use geophysics effectively rather than operate as specialist geophysicists.

Objectives

What you will achieve

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the physical basis of exploration geophysics
  • Describe magnetic and gravity methods and their targets
  • Apply electromagnetic (EM) methods in exploration
  • Understand induced polarisation (IP) and resistivity
  • Apply radiometric and other methods
  • Design appropriate geophysical surveys
  • Integrate and interpret geophysical data
  • Combine geophysics with geological and geochemical data
Training methodology

How the course is delivered

The course combines geophysical method theory with practical interpretation exercises using real survey examples. Participants learn to select, commission, and interpret geophysical surveys for exploration targets.

The programme is aimed at exploration professionals who use geophysics, focusing on practical application and interpretation rather than specialist data processing.

Who should attend

Designed for

This training course is ideal for:

  • Exploration geologists and geoscientists
  • Mining and exploration engineers
  • Technical professionals using geophysical data
  • Project geologists commissioning surveys
  • Anyone applying geophysics to exploration
