Overview

Course Description

A grid built for synchronous coal and gas plant behaves differently when a third of its generation is inverter-based, weather-driven and geographically dispersed. Kazakhstan is moving from 7% renewables toward 15% by 2030 — and the binding constraint is no longer generation capacity but the system's ability to absorb it.

This course develops grid integration capability. Participants learn the technical characteristics of variable renewables, inverter-based resources and their differences from synchronous machines, system inertia and frequency response, voltage control and reactive power, grid codes and connection requirements, hosting capacity and curtailment, forecasting and dispatch, storage and flexibility, and the system studies through which integration is planned and defended.
