Course Description
Railways under capacity pressure increasingly turn to digital signalling to run more trains on existing infrastructure — but capacity gains depend on how correctly the technology is applied, and disappointing outcomes from poor implementation are common. Meanwhile, mixing solutions from different suppliers and eras makes interoperability a first-order engineering problem.
This course addresses both: how to genuinely increase signalling capacity, and how to achieve interoperability between digital signalling solutions. Participants learn the drivers of railway capacity, how CBTC and enhanced ETCS deliver (or fail to deliver) capacity, headway analysis, and the architecture, interfaces and standards that make interoperable digital signalling possible.
