Overview

Course Description

Electricity transmission and distribution networks represent some of the largest and most critical physical asset bases in any economy — and their management under aging infrastructure, tight regulation, and constrained budgets is a strategic discipline in its own right. Regulators increasingly require network operators to demonstrate structured asset management aligned with ISO 55000.

This course develops comprehensive power network asset management capability, applying the ISO 55000 framework to transmission and distribution assets. Participants learn lifecycle asset management, condition assessment and condition-based risk management of HV assets, investment prioritisation, and the regulatory context — equipping them to manage grid assets strategically across their lifecycle.

Objectives

What you will achieve

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain asset management for power networks and the ISO 55000 framework
  • Apply lifecycle asset management to T&D assets
  • Conduct condition assessment of HV assets
  • Apply condition-based risk management (CBRM)
  • Prioritise investment and interventions
  • Understand the regulatory framework driving asset management
  • Develop asset management strategies and plans
  • Demonstrate asset management performance to regulators
Training methodology

How the course is delivered

The course combines the ISO 55000 asset management framework with power-network-specific application, using condition assessment and investment prioritisation exercises. Participants work through CBRM and asset strategy scenarios for T&D assets.

The programme balances the asset management system framework with the technical condition and risk management of high-voltage network assets.
