Overview

Course Description

Railway infrastructure — track, structures, signalling, electrification — represents a vast, aging and safety-critical asset base whose management determines both safety and the cost of running a railway. As Central and South Asian networks expand and carry heavier corridor traffic, disciplined rail asset management becomes decisive.

This course develops comprehensive railway asset management capability with a focus on track. Participants learn railway asset management within the ISO 55000 framework, track structure and degradation, inspection and condition monitoring, maintenance planning and renewal decisions, possession management, and the performance and investment decisions that govern railway infrastructure.

Objectives

What you will achieve

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply asset management principles to railway infrastructure
  • Understand track structure and components
  • Explain track degradation mechanisms
  • Apply track inspection and condition monitoring
  • Plan track maintenance and renewal
  • Make repair-versus-renew decisions
  • Manage possessions and access
  • Measure asset performance and prioritise investment
Training methodology

How the course is delivered

The course combines railway asset management with practical track maintenance and renewal planning exercises. Participants work through degradation, inspection and investment prioritisation using realistic railway scenarios.

The programme connects the ISO 55000 asset management framework with the specific technical realities of track and railway infrastructure.
