Course Description
Oil and gas operations concentrate hazards that few other industries carry simultaneously: flammable inventories at pressure, hydrocarbons at temperature, hydrogen sulphide, offshore isolation and drilling energy. Controlling them requires knowledge specific to the industry, not generic safety practice.
This training course develops operational safety competence for oil and gas. Participants learn the industry's hazard profile across upstream, midstream and downstream, hydrocarbon process safety and loss of containment, fire and explosion, H₂S and toxic exposure, drilling and well operations hazards, marine and offshore safety, permit to work and safe systems, and emergency response — the practical control of hazards specific to the industry.
What you will achieve
By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the oil and gas hazard profile across the value chain
- Control hydrocarbon process safety hazards
- Prevent and respond to loss of containment
- Assess and control fire and explosion risk
- Manage H2S and toxic exposure hazards
- Address drilling and well operations hazards
- Apply marine and offshore safety requirements
- Operate permit to work and safe systems of work
How the course is delivered
This training course combines oil and gas operational safety with industry case studies and practical control exercises. Participants work through hazard scenarios drawn from upstream, midstream and downstream operations.
The programme addresses the hazards specific to hydrocarbons — containment, fire, explosion, toxicity and well control — rather than general workplace safety.
