Course Description

The Vibration Analysis Category I course is the ideal starting place for new vibration analysts, personnel collecting vibration data, and anyone who wants a stronger understanding of vibration analysis and condition monitoring. Delivered with 3D animations and interactive simulations, the course makes complex concepts easy to understand.

Participants come away with a solid understanding of why we monitor the condition of rotating machinery and other critical assets, the importance of improved reliability, and how vibration can be measured and analysed to provide early warning of a wide range of fault conditions. The training and accredited certification follow ISO 18436-2 and ISO/IEC 17024 through the the certifying body (the certifying body). Total training time is approximately 32 hours.

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand condition monitoring and the most common technologies
  • Apply the fundamentals of vibration: waveforms, spectra, and simple metrics (RMS, peak, peak-to-peak, crest factor)
  • Take dependable, repeatable, high-quality vibration readings
  • Select and correctly mount vibration sensors
  • Perform the basics of the analysis process using vibration spectra
  • Configure key analyser settings: Fmax, resolution, and averaging
  • Detect common machine failure modes: bearing faults, unbalance, misalignment, looseness, and resonance

DAY 03Fault Detection and Analysis
  • The basics of the analysis process using spectra
  • Common failure modes: rolling element bearing faults
  • Unbalance, misalignment, looseness, and resonance
  • Preparing for the ISO 18436-2 Category I certification exam
