Overview

Course Description

Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is one of the most effective problem-solving tools for the reduction of risk and prevention of failure in design, process, and continuous improvement activities. This hands-on workshop gives participants a working knowledge of the FMEA process as it is applied in reliability and maintenance.

Participants learn the steps required to perform an FMEA, how FMEA fits into the wider improvement toolkit (RCM, RCA, PM Optimization), and how to use FMEA to develop reliability and maintenance strategies. The workshop is highly practical, building the ability to conduct and participate in the FMEA process proactively to prevent failures.

Objectives

What you will achieve

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the purpose and value of FMEA
  • Perform the steps required to conduct an FMEA
  • Distinguish design FMEA, process FMEA, and functional FMEA
  • Identify failure modes, effects, and causes
  • Assess severity, occurrence, and detection (RPN)
  • Use FMEA to develop reliability and maintenance strategies
  • Understand the relationship between FMEA, RCM, and PM Optimization
  • Conduct and facilitate FMEA sessions proactively
Training methodology

How the course is delivered

This is a hands-on workshop in which participants use in-class exercises to learn how to recognise potential failure risks and develop mitigating strategies. Real equipment and process examples are used to build and analyse FMEAs.

The workshop emphasises practical application and the integration of FMEA into the wider reliability toolkit.

Who should attend

Designed for

This workshop is ideal for:

  • Reliability and maintenance engineers
  • Design and process engineers
  • Quality and continuous improvement professionals
  • RCM and reliability team members
  • Anyone applying failure prevention tools
