Overview

Course Description

Railways manage safety through structured risk management — identifying hazards, assessing risk, applying controls and demonstrating that risk is acceptable. This is not generic risk management: it is a regulated discipline with its own methods, standards and evidentiary requirements, and it underpins every railway safety case and authorisation.

This course develops practical competence in railway safety risk management. Participants learn hazard identification, risk assessment methods, the common safety method for risk evaluation, hazard logs, safety requirements, and the safety case and authorisation process that governs railway change.
