Overview

Course Description

As carbon reporting becomes a regulated financial matter, independent verification of greenhouse gas assertions has become a profession — and a constrained one. CBAM requires accredited verifiers to inspect installations, CSRD requires assurance of sustainability statements, and carbon markets require validated claims. The demand for competent verifiers is expanding faster than the supply.

This course develops verification competence built on the ISO framework. Participants learn GHG quantification under ISO 14064-1 and the GHG Protocol, project-level quantification under 14064-2, verification and validation under 14064-3, the requirements for verification bodies under ISO 14065 and ISO 17029, verifier competence under ISO 14066, and the practical craft of verification — planning, materiality, risk assessment, sampling, evidence, site visits and assurance statements.

Note: accreditation as a verifier is granted by accreditation bodies, not by training providers. This course builds competence and provides evidence of training; it does not itself confer accredited verifier status.

Objectives

  • Apply ISO 14064-1 to organisational GHG inventories
  • Apply ISO 14064-2 to project-level quantification
  • Apply ISO 14064-3 to verification and validation
  • Understand ISO 14065 and ISO 17029 requirements for verification bodies
  • Understand ISO 14066 verifier competence requirements
  • Plan a verification engagement including scope and materiality

Training methodology

How the course is delivered

The course combines the ISO 14064/14065 framework with verification craft through audit simulations, sampling exercises and evidence assessment on realistic GHG assertions. Participants plan and execute a mock verification.

The programme is aimed at those who will verify or be verified, and reflects the requirements applied under CBAM, CSRD and carbon market schemes.
