Overview

Course Description

The EU AI Act's obligations for high-risk systems take effect on 2 August 2026, with Annex II following in August 2027. It reaches any organisation placing AI systems on the EU market or whose AI output is used in the EU — regardless of where the organisation sits.

The obligations differ fundamentally depending on role. A provider must run conformity assessment, maintain technical documentation, register in the EU database and affix CE marking. A deployer has lighter but real duties around human oversight, monitoring and input data. Getting the classification wrong means preparing for the wrong regime entirely.

This course addresses the Act from the perspective of those building and deploying AI systems. Participants learn the risk-based classification, prohibited practices, high-risk requirements in detail, the provider/deployer split, general-purpose AI model obligations, conformity assessment and CE marking, and the enforcement and penalty regime.

Objectives

What you will achieve

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the EU AI Act's scope and extraterritorial reach
  • Apply the risk-based classification to AI systems
  • Identify prohibited AI practices
  • Apply the requirements for high-risk AI systems
  • Distinguish provider, deployer, importer and distributor obligations
  • Understand general-purpose AI (GPAI) model obligations
  • Navigate conformity assessment, technical documentation and CE marking
  • Understand enforcement, penalties and the compliance timeline
Training methodology

How the course is delivered

The course works through the Act's obligations with classification and documentation exercises on realistic AI systems. Participants classify systems, identify applicable requirements and map conformity assessment routes.

The programme is written for providers and deployers of AI systems rather than for industrial users, and focuses on the operational work of demonstrating conformity.
