Overview

Course Description

Unbalance is the single most common cause of machinery vibration, and field balancing — correcting unbalance in place without removing the rotor — is one of the highest-value practical skills in maintenance. This course develops the theory and hands-on procedures of single-plane and two-plane field balancing.

Aligned with Vibration Institute practice, participants learn to diagnose unbalance, perform single- and two-plane balancing using trial weights and influence coefficients, and achieve and verify ISO balance quality grades. The course is highly practical, building the ability to balance rotating machinery confidently in the field.

Objectives

What you will achieve

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain unbalance and its effect on machinery
  • Distinguish static, couple, and dynamic unbalance
  • Diagnose unbalance using vibration data
  • Perform single-plane field balancing
  • Perform two-plane field balancing
  • Apply trial weights and influence coefficient methods
  • Achieve and verify ISO balance quality grades
  • Document and report balancing results
Training methodology

How the course is delivered

The course combines balancing theory with extensive practical balancing exercises using trial weights and influence coefficients. Participants work through single- and two-plane balancing on realistic scenarios.

Aligned with Vibration Institute practice, the programme emphasises hands-on field balancing capability.
