Overview

Course Description

This course unlocks the complexities of CCUS flow assurance, giving participants a deep understanding of CO2 properties and pipeline design in carbon capture systems. It addresses the interface between CO2 properties, pipelines, and storage integrity.

Designed for engineers, technical leads, and project managers involved in CCUS, hydrogen production, or CO2 transport and storage, the course covers the thermodynamic and physical behaviour of CO2 and CO2-rich mixtures, phase envelope behaviour, dense phase transport, and the impact of impurities. Participants learn to de-risk CO2 transport, assess storage feasibility, and apply operational flow assurance best practices.

Objectives

What you will achieve

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand CO2 properties and phase behaviour in carbon capture systems
  • Analyse the impact of impurities (water, H2S, nitrogen, oxygen) on transport
  • Assess pipeline hydraulics, phase stability, and corrosion risks
  • Apply flow assurance principles in steady-state and transient operations
  • De-risk CO2 transport and assess storage feasibility
  • Apply operational flow assurance best practices in CCUS hubs
  • Support FEED, concept studies, and operations in CCUS and hydrogen plants
Training methodology

How the course is delivered

The course combines lectures, interactive workshops, and practical exercises. It bridges theory and real-world application, drawing on the course leader's experience across nearly 50 CCUS projects globally including Metropolitan CCS, Porthos, and Moomba CCS.

Practical training emphasises real-world applications and risk mitigation strategies.

Who should attend

Designed for

This training course is ideal for:

  • Process, flow assurance, mechanical, and operations engineers
  • Subsurface and reservoir professionals in CCUS
  • Technical advisors, study managers, and SMEs
  • Professionals with 3-15 years in oil, gas, or energy infrastructure
  • Teams working on FEED and concept studies in CCUS hubs
