Water and sewerage networks fail quietly and then all at once. Damaged mains, power loss at pumping stations, and non-revenue water losses that can exceed half of production leave utilities unable to guarantee supply — and a sewerage failure becomes a public health emergency long before it becomes an engineering problem.
This programme addresses water and sewerage networks and the utilities that run them. Participants learn network structure and hydraulics, pipe materials and condition, leak detection and non-revenue water reduction, pumping and its dependence on power, water quality through a damaged network, sewerage operation and overflow risk, emergency repair, and the restoration planning that donor-funded projects require.
