Overview

Course Description

Welds fail where inspection was nominal. A weld that meets its acceptance criteria on paper but was made outside its qualified procedure, by an unqualified welder, on the wrong material, is a latent failure waiting for pressure and time.

This course develops welding inspection capability. Participants learn welding processes and their characteristic defects, metallurgy and heat-affected zone behaviour, welding procedure specification and qualification, welder qualification, inspection before, during and after welding, weld defects and their causes, NDT of welds and acceptance criteria, distortion and residual stress, and the documentation through which weld quality is proven.

Objectives

What you will achieve

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain principal welding processes and their characteristic defects
  • Apply welding metallurgy and understand heat-affected zone behaviour
  • Review welding procedure specifications and qualification records
  • Verify welder qualification
  • Conduct inspection before, during and after welding
  • Identify weld defects and diagnose their causes
  • Apply NDT to welds and interpret against acceptance criteria
  • Manage weld documentation and traceability
Training methodology

How the course is delivered

The course combines welding technology with inspection practice through defect identification, procedure review and acceptance exercises using realistic welds and documentation.

The programme addresses inspection across the full sequence — before, during and after welding — because most weld failures are determined before the arc is struck.

Who should attend

Designed for

This training course is ideal for:

  • Welding and QA/QC inspectors
  • Fabrication and construction supervisors
  • Quality engineers
  • Maintenance and integrity engineers
  • Anyone accountable for weld quality
