Overview

Course Description

The EU Methane Regulation makes independent verification mandatory — and creates demand for verifiers faster than the profession can supply them. A verifier must assess whether an operator's reported methane emissions are materially correct, whether the measurement and reconciliation methodology is sound, and whether the data survives inspection. That is a distinct competence, and it is scarce.

This course develops methane verification capability. Participants learn the verification requirements of the Regulation, the verifier's role and independence, planning a verification engagement, materiality and risk assessment for emissions data, assessing measurement methodology and reconciliation, site inspection, evidence and sampling, non-conformities, and the verification statement.

Note: accreditation as a verifier is granted by accreditation bodies, not by training providers. This course builds competence and provides evidence of training; it does not itself confer accredited verifier status.

Objectives

  • Conduct site inspection and evidence gathering
  • Identify and classify non-conformities
  • Issue a verification statement
Training methodology

How the course is delivered

The course combines verification methodology with audit simulation on realistic methane reports and reconciliation data. Participants plan and execute a mock verification, assess evidence and issue findings.

The programme is aimed at those who will verify or be verified, and complements the GHG verification programme by addressing the specific technical challenges of methane data.
